EMMROSE is an alternative singer/songwriter from NYC.
Her voice is incredibly mature. As you hear her sing, it’s easy to forget that she’s only 15 years old, but started playing piano when she was only 8.
It is hard to believe that such a young person can write music with such intelligent, insightful and inspiring lyrics. She wrote this song when she was in 8th grade. She started writing this while she was in math class.
Here is how she describes the inspiration:
“I wrote the chorus and melody in my math class grid notebook. A group of kids were sitting at a table, away from me with this kid that I liked at the time, and he looked at me with this expression that captured how isolated I felt at the time. I wanted so much to be part of that group of kids. Earlier that week I had asked him to have coffee with me, and he replied, “Don’t take this personally, but I hate you,” and just walked away. He never said anything nice, and always left me gasping for breath, thus the lyrics, ‘Hold back that dangerous tongue, that fills the breath of my lungs”.
She reminds us that love can hurt, no matter what age you are. Emmrose grew up in lower Manhattan, enrolled at the ‘Fame’ School (LaGuardia High School Of Music & Art and Performing Arts). It’s the same school attended by Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Aniston.
She goes to school during the day, then writes and performs her own music at night. Emmrose is an icon-in-the-making! Her debut EP called ‘Hopeless Romantics” will be out this summer. But this track is already available for download.
You can hear this song and others in this week’s “Song Spotlight” podcast episode 41.
