Matias and the Canyons’, Matthias, is an Americana singer-songwriter.
He’s also known as Herman, the banjo player in Steve’n’Seagulls. I know we posted a post is probably been a maybe a year or two maybe more ago. They did a Bluegrass version of a AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’. So you’ve probably heard of Steve’n’Seagulls.
A few years ago he was touring with Steve’n’Seagulls. Being on the road can be quite boring. You’ll look for things to keep your interest. He started listening to bands like Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Tim Buckley, Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton.
That got him interested in other kinds of music. He found himself getting into Americana. It presented a whole new song writing style. It really opened things up.
About this new song, he says:
“Different landscapes, experiences and people have their effect on songwriting. At least the lyrics come easier when I’m on tour. Touring with a band is a whole different world and there’s so much to write about if you keep your eyes in mind open. Usually I aim to evoke a feeling in the song that will trigger something in the listener’s imagination. It’s like painting to some extent. I guess the single “Echoes In The Canyon” collides with my memories of Arizona. It’s a song from the middle of the canyons.”
If you’ve never been to Arizona, you may not know what that’s even like to be like in the middle of all those Canyons. However, the idea is when you listen to the song you kind of get a feeling of what it’s like.
The whole album is not going to be released until sometime this year. However, this particular song is available for download now.
