Sätilä is a Finnish pop artist based in London.
His musical journey started when he was 7 years old. That’s when he started playing the piano.
It is times like this that become pivotal in a person’s life. You see, during our lifetime we all are forced to make decisions that can change the trajectory of our lives. Decisions that take us down different (sometimes unforeseen or unplanned) paths. Decisions that can literally change everything in the blink of an eye.
Without knowing it, this was one of those moments for Sätilä. Here’s why…
Some people learn the piano with the hopes of being able to play songs they know and like. Maybe play for a few people and entertain small groups, family or friends. And that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. It depends on each person’s life journey. Everyone’s path is different.
The point is, this is when Sätilä took a different path than many other talented musicians who learn to play an instrument. He started writing his own songs. Things started shaking up in his life. It was the beginning of his uprising as an artist to be reckoned with.
He joined an alternative rock band. Then he reached another decisive moment in his life. He decided to gain a better understanding of his life’s calling and started studying songwriting. He learned more than the mechanics and theories of songwriting. He was also developing himself as an artist and performer.
Eventually, he returned to Europe as a new self-defined “force of music”. Sätilä makes music with a positive purpose in mind. He hopes to help people who feel as though they are not good enough and may not fit in.
“When I was a kid I listened to a lot of mainstream pop and as a teenager I got into alternative and indie rock. I feel like that has shaped me more than I thought it did. I know people say indie rock has had its moment but I’m just not sure. It still makes me feel. I think there is room for all sorts of music so why restrict people’s expression just because it’s not a trend and if it still makes people feel something”.
