WATCH ME BREATHE is a progressive pop-rock band from Santa Cruz, California.
The band formed in 2017. So the project is fairly new. Watch Me Breathe is based on an honesty that came from trying to please other people. Jake Aaron Ward (lead vocalist) formed the band out of frustration.
“As a solo artist, I just got fed up with trying to write music only to please other people. Watch Me Breathe is really an experiment that says: what would I write if nobody else was listening?”
That’s where the truth and honesty we mentioned comes in. Nothing is faked. Nothing is pretend. It’s a lesson we can all learn on some level when it comes to life, in general. When anyone is able to stand on their own truth, and there is nothing to hide, the truth…the authenticity never changes.
Jake Aaron Ward is a musical prodigy. His talents are on the level of iconic musicians like Beck. Jake literally does it all. He writes, records, performs, mixes and masters all the tracks himself, in his California home. That can be a lot of pressure to put on one’s self. When one person does it all, there isn’t really anyone to blame if something goes wrong or sucks. The weight of the entire project falls on a single person’s shoulders. You never know what will happen.
About writing this album Jake says:
“I didn’t know how this album would sound when I was writing each song, and it’s been really exciting and satisfying to see it come together as a cohesive portrait. I’m happy to say that I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created and I can assure you there will much, much more to come in the future.”
When they are touring the band is made up of Ward on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Carl on drums and Ryan Green on bass.
There has been a lot of buzz around this new album, which was just released a couple weeks ago…And it is available for download now.
