Susan O’Neill today release’s her new single ‘Drive’, marking Susan’s first new music since her ‘Now You See It’ EP which scooped the ‘Best Original Folk Song’ award for its namesake track at the RTE 1 Folk awards in 2023.
Engineered and produced by Christian Best in Cork, written with fellow bandmate brothers Cillian and Lorcan Byrne, and mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Cian Riordan (St. Vincent, Lana Del Rey, Sleater Skinny). ‘Drive’ is a breezy indie-folk earworm, a poetic flow of lyrically rich contradictions, with Susan’s soulful husky vocals bringing the listener on a journey of all the highs and lows of the human condition.
Of the song Susan said: “It fell out of my mouth and onto the page in one brief sitting. I’m trying to be more honest with myself. If I can know my own chaos, chill with it, wear it like a parade of paradoxes this would be me trying that on.”
Accompanied by a self-directed and filmed video for ‘Drive’, Susan teamed up again with longtime collaborator Christopher Luke who edited this charming video together.
Since the release of the critically acclaimed collaboration album with Mick Flannery ‘In The Game’, Susan has toured extensively across Europe and North America, performing both with Mick and solo on headline tours, festival stages, and as an invited guest to an array of artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Valerie June and The Teskey Brothers.
Susan has already announced some spring and summer shows, including the Haldern Pop Festival in Germany, where she will play a mainstage set with the Stargaze Orchestra, ‘Zermatt Unplugged’ festival in Switzerland and ‘Live at The Marquee’ in Cork. More dates to be announced very soon.
