American Television “Snakes”

American Television has been a strong presence in the Washington D.C. punk scene for quite a while now. Year after year, the band has helped build a community that includes Breakin’ Even Fest and Staycation and has made D.C. a welcome stop on the DIY circuit. In 2020, they released Watch It Burn, a fiery pop-punk album and supported it with regional touring. Now they are gearing up to release their follow-up album titled Scars and have found a new home at A-F Records. Pairing with Anti-Flag’s own record label makes a whole lot of sense for American Television as their proximity to the nation’s capital has seeped into their songwriting and lyrical content. Their new single, “Snakes“, is about politicians that backpedal on their promises after getting voted into office. Chorus.FM is hosting a video premiere for “Snakes” today and the track will hit streaming platforms on Friday, July 21st. Scars will be released on Friday, September 22nd and vinyl preorders are available now from A-F Records.

Living in the shadow of Washington DC, it’s no surprise that American Television is fueled and influenced by the pressures and political turmoil of our nation’s capital. They shape their angst, exhaustion, and personal traumas, plus a dash of hope, into a Molotov cocktail of melody and vitriol aimed at both the system and their own demons.

Their second full length album Scars picks up where 2020’s Watch It Burn (Wiretap Records) left off. The juxtaposition of cynical perspectives sung over pop-punk hooks is right at home on the Anti-Flag-founded label A-F Records.

Though they may have flown under your radar until now, chances are American Television has shared the stage with your favorite Fest bands like Spanish Love Songs, Direct Hit!, Iron Chic, MakeWar, The Copyrights, and Piebald. They are no strangers to the yearly festival themselves, having played for three consecutive years.
