‘Shivering’ is a roaring yet vulnerable indie-rock statement from Dublin’s Big Sleep. The track deals with themes of detachment in the face of looming heartbreak. Pensive lyrics and cathartic hooks create a tension that keeps listeners guessing throughout but hungry for more. The track is inspired by the sounds of Big Thief, The Killers, and Spacey Jane. The first release off **Big Sleep’**s Sophomore 5-track EP, ‘Shivering’ was recorded, produced and mixed by James Smith (Gypsies on the Autobahn, J Smith) in Hellfire Studios in July 2022. Mastered by Pete Maher.
‘Shivering’ was one of those songs that felt special from the moment that we started jamming it. It took shape in the space of a half hour, something just clicked between the band. It was born from a last minute rehearsal before a gig where we performed it that night for the first time and the crowd really seemed to resonate with it. Since then, every time we play it live, the energy in the room moves up a gear and people approach us after shows asking where they can hear it online. It’s one of our favourites on this upcoming EP so we’re glad that people can finally hear it in their headphones and hopefully sing it back at the next gig.
Rising indie-alternative act Big Sleep are ‘destined for greatness’ – Hot Press magazine: Hot for 2023. The Dublin-based group partly came together at school and other’s later joined through the city’s live music scene. Blending indie-alternative influences with pop and soul, the Irish-Italian outfit creates soundscapes that land in the intersection somewhere between JJ Cale, Jamiroqaui, and Joy Division.
Summer 2022 saw the quartet release their Debut EP which received international radio play (BBC Radio 6, Amazing Radio, RTÉ 2FM) and featured on Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’, ‘All New Rock’ and ‘New Music Friday’ playlists alongside European tour dates across Ireland, Italy and France. Big Sleep also had packed out performances at Sea Sessions and Electric Picnic then finished 2022 with another Irish and UK Tour. The band kicked off 2023 by joining acclaimed indie rocker, Somebody’s Child on their Irish Tour and are set to release a string of singles ahead of their Sophomore EP release. Big Sleep will play The Workman’s Cellar on May 13th with support from Ellen Sleator in association with MCD.
