Incorporating power-pop and indie-rock, Charley Horse is a band formed in 2022 and based in Austin, Texas. They feature three guitars (Lincoln Dunn, Doug Finch, and Glenn Gomez), bass guitar (Jordan Garrett), and drums (Kevin Cavanagh), with all five members contributing to writing and singing. Their new Foothills EP releases on Friday, February 24th, which will be preceded by the single “Ball Cap,” available February 17th.
The new EP was recorded in Austin, Texas with Chad Doriocourt and consists of three songs they’ve been playing over the last year. The titular track is a sprawling song that builds up over time and features a simple melody that is gradually elevated by harmonies and complex guitar riffs. “Rodeo” is more of a new wave/surf/psychedelic romp that features fun lead and bass guitar riffs and is driven by powerful drums and jangling rhythm guitars. The last track, “Ball Cap”, is drenched in catchy guitar riffs, a smooth trumpet part, and is carried along by an infectious drum beat and bassline.
