Chris Wong “Been Here For Days”

Fresh from playing SoFar Sounds London, the release of “Been Here For Days” follows the success of Chris Wong’s debut single “Talents”, which was released in late August 2022 and has since garnered 12,000 streams.

The Dublin native broke onto the scene last year, where he was the only act to play at Forbidden Fruit festival with no music released. The attention from this performance earned Wong a booking at All Together Now, where he impressed yet again. More recently, Chris Wong played to a packed out Workman’s at Ireland Music Week 2022 where he was selected from thousands of applicants to represent emerging Irish talent alongside artists such as Lucy McWilliams and Thumper. This led nicely to a sold out show at The Grand Social, where the Irish-Hong Kongese 24 year old held his own in front of a packed out audience.

A distinctly memorable number, “Been Here For Days” exhibits Wong’s genre-blending style whilst retaining his distinct individuality. The hook catches you, “I’ve been here for now, I’ve been here for days” hovering behind a stunning lead synth line which is supported by the tightness of a midi bass and smooth drum production. The lyrics personify entrapment and frustration. Speaking about his new single, Chris says:

“It’s a song that I had a sudden urge to write. Musically, I felt like I simply wasn’t being heard. I know this is something any artist can relate to. You feel like you’re putting 100% into it all but the returns can certainly feel low. At the time, a lot of frustration surrounded me and I suppose this was my response to dealing with it.”

As Wong continues to garner attention and acclaim from audiences and industry figures alike in the initial stages of  his solo career, he is busy working towards an EP release for this Summer. The songwriter and musician is also breathing life into some of Dublin’s most exciting acts.

A member of indie-rock group Papa Romeo, this band continues to excite coming off the back of performances at a sold out Sugar Club, All Together Now and Other Voices. Chris is also one half of the FRANK ZING team (alongside Rob de Boer); this wicked duo have new music coming early this year and in the meantime feature on Khakikid’s newest single, Sports n Tattoos.
