Born and raised in Australia and currently living in Sweden, folk singer Hazlett releases his first single of 2024, the evocative ‘Bones Shake’ out 19th April via Nettwerk.

Following the release of his debut album Bloom Mountain and a follow-up EP Goodbye to the Valley Low in 2023, rising talent Hazlett gears up to unveil more new music with the upcoming single ‘Bones Shake’, released via Nettwerk. A haunting background of broken guitars and candid lyrics are grounds for this coming-of-age folk song, culminating in a rowdy but ethereal chorus that sounds like a release of pent-up feelings.

Hazlett, thinking about ‘Bones Shake’ says, ‘I think running away gets a bit of a bad name. I think it’s near impossible to clarify exactly where things went wrong or how to fix them when you’re sitting in the mess you made. Whether it’s time or distance, sometimes the further you get away the clearer it all becomes to piece things together and make your comeback.’

Having just come off a North America tour with LANY, this new single arrives as Hazlett heads back out across Europe, supporting Passenger, Calum Scott and Ocie Elliott (dates below)

2023 was a busy year for Hazlett, as he released his debut album Bloom Mountain to positive support from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, having previously received acclaim from CLASH, NME and When The Horn Blows. Going on to support Wild Rivers and Josiah & The Bonnevilles across the UK and Europe, he ended the year by releasing EP Goodbye to the Valley Low – a stunning set of songs recorded in an off-grid cabin on the west coast of Sweden. This stripped-back collection of delicate indie-folk songs brimming with personal anecdotes told through his polished introspective songwriting was produced by longtime collaborator Freddy Alexander – ‘Bones Shake’ continues in this vein with its exquisitely layered sound.

Indie songwriter Hazlett was born and raised in Australia but if the past few years are anything to go by, he’s very much bloomed in Sweden. An old friend, one big break-up and playing Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ three times a night was the unplanned cocktail of moments that saw him throw adulthood to the wayside and venture to the other side of the world.

A pocket full of nerves and a tangled mess of memories became the start of Hazlett’s unique brand of “Indie Ballroom Folk”. But everything crystallised one summer in Stockholm after finding the fabled collaborator chemistry in now close friend Freddy Alexander. A lot has changed since then and what started as a way for him to “figure out some things in his head…” has now become a whole world of music and beautiful details to move through.

Even though the nerves never quite go away, there’s this newfound quiet confidence to the troubadour from down under. You may not have met, but sometimes when you’re listening to Hazlett, he feels like the only friend you’ve ever had.
