Liam Mera Kai “wishbone”

On November 15th rising singer-songwriter Liam Mera Kai releases his addictive new single ‘wishbone’ via HeadFirst Records, and taken from his debut EP scheduled for release early next year.
With an approach to songwriting that surpasses his young age, Liam delivers a fusion of alt hip-hop, neo-soul and alt R&B, occasionally layered with elements of UK dance and garage. Weaving mellow, jazzy UK hip-hop beats, introspective rhymes and impressive vocals, this South London newcomer proves he’s just as comfortable spitting bars as he is singing in his second single, ’wishbone.’
Marking a shift from his grittier 2023 release ‘The View’, ’wishbone’ showcases a soulful, melancholic sound and all together lighter melodic approach while still maintaining his ruminative songwriting.
“The song is about being uncomfortable” Liam explains. “The hope of your relationship working out shouldn’t be dependent on a birthday wish or a shooting star. The universe has its plan.” He adds “I wanted to make a track that reflected overthinking. Something that felt nostalgic yet unique. As if you’d heard it before because you recognised that feeling.”

About Liam Mera Kai:
Born and raised in South London, singer-songwriter/rapper Liam Mera Kai is turning heads with his blend of empowering, earnest offerings, evident in his 2023 single ‘The View’ and his upcoming debut EP, set to be released next year.
Liam has always been a thinker, seeing it as more of an opportunity than a hindrance. Delivering thought-provoking lyricism across a blend of genres, the UK artist struggled to categorise his sound, drawing influences from the authenticity of Loyle Carner, the experimentation of Bakar and the soulfulness of Paolo Nutini among others.
Often fusing a mellow, laidback sound with uncomfortable themes, the young artist plans to evolve his music alongside his experiences. Certain subjects run deep in Liam’s music, with expressions of love, admiration, overthinking and doubt being common themes. Whether addressing excitement, confusion or pain, the artist attempts to provide one major consistency: relatability. “The aim is to combine soundscape and lyricism to encourage feeling but also thought” he explains.
With a steady string of new releases planned for the future and a unique approach blending genres and tackling introspective subject matters, the rising rapper is poised to make a fresh impression on the music scene.
