Lucinda Poy “Selling Out”

Born from a dreary day like a cloud’s silver lining is ‘Selling Out’, Boorloo/Perth-based indie artist Lucinda Poy’s breathtaking second-ever single release, coming out on Friday, November 8th.

At just 19, she made her debut in February of 2024 with her spirited single ‘Just Fine’ which has garnered over 15k streams on Spotify alone and captured the hearts and ears of many with her powerhouse vocals and introspective lyrics.

Her accomplishments don’t end there – She’s won Best Original Song at the Wynnum Fringe Festival in 2022, performed pre-game entertainment at Brisbane stadium The Gabba, toured QLD and New Zealand to promote music opportunities to students and even appeared on Channel 7th’s telethon, making her well-established in the scene.

Now, building upon her debut release, she is releasing ‘Selling Out’, a track delicately produced by WA’s Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War, EDIE, Joan & The Giants). This gorgeous single is made up of tender guitar, layered vocals, and gentle drums that let the heartbroken softness of the song shine through. With her powerful and emotive vocals, Lucinda Poy excels at building a gorgeous soundscape, weaving an immersive experience through her voice.

Written after a very stressful day working in hospitality, this song shines a spotlight on the internal conflict Lucinda feels as she laments on leaving her dreams behind and wonders how her life would look if she continued on in hospitality instead of pursuing her dream of music. She recalls the moment that inspired her to write it,

“I remember the feeling of walking out onto the main street after a late night shift. It’s empty, strewn with rubbish, and you would be the only person there. Feeling like you’re stuck in the same job, in the same place, while everyone moves on with their lives. I felt that I was selling myself short with the decisions I made. ”

Take a moment of raw honesty with Lucinda Poy’s ‘Selling Out’.
