Pastel Jungle and Adam Harpaz “Other Than Orange”

Australian singer-songwriter Adam Harpaz and UK-born producer Pastel Jungle have teamed up to create their latest single ‘Other Than Orange’, which was released on the 18th of January via Pastel Jungle + Adam Harpaz. The record marks the first time that either musician has collaborated with another artist on a release. In the press, Adam has been supported by noteworthy publications Daily Telegraph, Forte Magazine, and Roadie Music and received spins from the esteemed Australian radio station ABC’s triple j. Having accumulated 2 million streams across platforms, he has sold 10,000 physical copies of his records and landed features on well-known YouTube channels alexrainbirdMusic, Sofar Sounds,** Mahogany**, and Apeiron among others. A growing name, Pastel Jungle has been aired on BBC Music Introducing a number of times and has been featured in music publications Music Geeks UK and Right Chord Music, while on YouTube, he has repeatedly had his music appear on David Dean Burkhart,** The Daily Dose**, and BIRP!. The collaboration is reminiscent of Angus & Julia Stone and Vance Joy.

Born in Sydney, and residing in Byron Bay, Australia, Adam Harpaz is an independent singer-songwriter and producer who relocated, on a whim, from urbanised Sydney to the nature-abundant Northern Rivers of New South Wales in late 2015 for a slower-paced lifestyle and to be surrounded by artists who inspire his creativity. Adam started street performing to support himself, taking a grassroots approach to growing his music and improving his craft. The experience shaped his sound and musical ethos into what it is today. Over the years, Adam has become somewhat of a troubadour, having played over 1500 shows to date, toured Europe twice, America once, Australia four times, and New Zealand once.

From Chichester, England, based in Byron Bay, Australia, Kees, better known as Pastel Jungle, conjures warm productions with soothing, intimate melodies and carefully-contemplated lyrics. Though his sonic history is brief compared to similar artists in the emerging Indie scene, Kees is well-versed in music, owing the majority of his musical understanding to his studies undertaken at the renowned UK art university Falmouth University. In 2018, Kees made a split decision to take himself, a laptop, and a copy of Logic as far from home as he could. After releasing an EP and two singles, Kees returned home in 2020 with a broader understanding of his craft and a drive to progress.

A harmonious agreement between their different backgrounds, Adam Harpaz and Pastel Jungle’s new collaboration ‘Other Than Orange’ ripples with warm, crackling Rhodes keys and cosy guitar accents that drive toward acceptance of forlorn desires. Lyrics dissect the alluring lie that the grass is always greener on the other side. Floating melodies drift around a sonic metaphor to illustrate the constant yearning for a stronger feeling.

Adam Harpaz and Pastel Jungle tell us: “This first collab of many more to come is an alluring journey into the depths of longing for fonder memories. We wanted to capture that oddly captivating sensation of replaying those perfect memories, so often poisoned by the idea that you might never experience them the same way again.”
