Kinobe “Lost In Time”

Kinobe released their brand-new full-length album, ‘Over The Horizon’, on the 4th of August via the SGKL imprint. On the LP, listeners will discover the kaleidoscopic lead track ‘Lost In Time’ which recently premiered on influential publication CLASH Magazine, alongside the recently released single ‘Falling Star’, which garnered support from prominent YouTube Channel SuicideSheeep. The 11-track album is the band’s eighth and was mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, Coldplay, to name but a few) at the famous Abbey Road Studios. Further, Kinobe’s music garnered the attention of music publications such as Mixmag, DJ Mag, Sputnik Music, and Hotpress Magazine and was featured in The Guardian and The Independent.

The band’s music has aired on NPR,  BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 – The 6 Mix with Nemone, Radio FG (FG CHIC and FG CHIC’s internet stations FG CHIC Spa, FG CHIC & Chill and FG CHIC lounge), as well as Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2. Notably, they have been featured numerous times in the CD collections and YouTube channel of the iconic Chill-music brand Café del Mar. On Spotify, the band has accumulated 40 million streams and counting.

‘Over the Horizon’ has 11 warmly nostalgic songs. From dreamy-eyed chord progressions to pristine synth lines, this one is classic Kinobe. One moment, we’re caught in a time long passed, the next, we’re shuttled to a place where chimes shimmer like light off the surface of a gleaming, crystalline ocean.

From the UK, based in Perth, Australia, Kinobe was formed in West London in 1998 by childhood friends Julius Waters and Mark “Blackie” Blackburn after Waters’ returned from Perth, Australia where he spent the greater part of his teens. With the same retro influences, from Soul to Funk, Blues, Jazz, and R&B, both multi-instrumentalists started composing together. And now, the group creates music in a similar lane to Air, Boozoo Bajou, and Bent.

Kinobe opens the curtains: “This album is a sonic representation of driving down the highways of my mind at sunrise towards Shangri-la, which is always hiding just over the horizon.”

The band became the quintessential downtempo group with the release of their Engelbert Humperdinck-sampled single ‘Slip Into Something More Comfortable’, which became a Chillout staple and was licensed for innumerable compilations, soundtracks, and TV commercials. Despite various line-up changes over the years, founding member Julius Waters has continued to release Kinobe albums. 2023 sees them release their eighth studio album, Over The Horizon, written and recorded in a beach house in Western Australia.
