Lucigenic are back with the brand new single: “Star”.

Pulsing with a Patti Smith Group-like mystique and a poetic soul to match, the latest from the Manchester collective shines bright like a beacon towards their long-awaited debut album (arriving in 2024).

A song about escaping reality and pursuing your wildest dreams, unrecognised potential and defiance in the face of expectation, “Star” tells a tale that will resonate with anyone who has followed their creative calling in life.

Speaking about the track, Lucy Wyatt says of “Star”:

“‘Star’ is a hypnotic dreamscape of swirling melodies, hooks and rhythm that aim to draw the listener into the lyrical journey of life’s unsung heroes, wasted talent, unfulfilled desires and reluctance to conform to ‘the norm’…  Stars couldn’t shine without Darkness”

Illuminated by its glimmering piano arpeggios and astral guitar lines that sear like comets through the night sky, Lucy Wyatt’s wistful vocal is ably backed by guitarists Gary Wyatt and Thomas Twemlow (Irrepressibles / Sea Fever), Simon Wolstencroft (ex-Fall) on drums, Rhona Mapperley on keyboards, and David Tolan on bass/backing vocals),

Co-written by Lucigenic with David Tolan and recorded at Hope Mill Recording Studios Manchester, “Star” was additionally produced by the prestigious David Tolan (Tori Amos / Denise Johnson (Primal Scream)).

Seeking to amplify the sentiment of their new single, “Star” arrives with a stylish sepia shaded official video by Flashback Productions (watch it here), plus original custom artwork courtesy of acclaimed northern artist Nan Collantine (MuraMa Art Space – find more of her work here).

Lucigenic are a Manchester based collective fronted by the inimitable Lucy Wyatt. Finding inspiration in a broad range of influences from pop’s foremost female trailblazers like Patti Smith to Kate Bush, to the psych-skewered explorations of The Zombies, or the brooding post-punk overtones of the Chameleons, the band first rose to prominence with their debut EP ‘1’ back in 2020. A diverse six-track collection that radiated their various influences, while showcasing their ambition to give every track they write its own individual identity. The band have since followed the EP with one-off singles “Hope” and “Still Breathing”(2021), plus 2022’s “Joy”. On their short journey to date, the collective have already worked talents the likes Mark Refoy (Spiritualized, Spacemen 3), Dave Barbarossa (Bow Wow Wow, Republica), Spencer Birtwistle (Intastella, The Fall), Stewart Burnett (The Cheaters), esteemed producer Mike Bennett (The Fall, Fat White Family, Ian Brown) and engineer Angus Wallace.

“Star” is the first single to be released from their forthcoming debut album, which will be available on vinyl and digitally later in 2024 and due to feature further collaborations. Stay tuned for further news on that very soon…
