Essex punk-rock risers – PET NEEDS – are back with the seismic new single: “Separation Anxiety”.
The new track arrives as the band gear-up for an extensive UK headline tour this November/December.
New song “Separation Anxiety” is a blazing, punk-bristled offering that unfolds as a warped interpretation of the traditional love song; its breakneck instrumentals and runaway riffs embellishing vocals spun with offbeat declarations of undying devotion.
As frontman Johnny explains:
“”Separation Anxiety” is an unconventional, subverted love song about my wife Lorna. We have been together almost 15 years and had never spent more than two weeks apart until last year. I know Lorna would absolutely cringe at anything too over-sincere, so shouting that I love her more than anyone else does is more her style!”
As they put the finishing touches to their highly anticipated third album, “Separation Anxiety” is the first peek of what PET NEEDS have been up to in recent months. Neatly capturing the band’s fun-focused and frenetic approach to music-making, but also their knack for injecting life’s deeper deliberations into the mix, Johnny adds:
“It also explores the notion of loving oneself, which seems to have been pedalled for the last decade by sloganeering self-destructive indie bands who don’t practise what they preach. Maybe I fit into that camp, too. Dammit.”
PET NEEDS will perform “Separation Anxiety”, plus other new material, and established favourites at a stretch of UK headline shows throughout November and December. The band will also wrap-up the year with a huge homecoming show at Sub Zero in Colchester, in what is set to be their biggest headline gig to date; with very special support from The Lottery Winners. PET NEEDS are Johnny (vocals), George (guitar), Jack (drums) and the newly introduced Ryan (bass). Following the release of their explosive debut ‘Fractured Party Music’ in 2021, the band released the showstopping Frank Turner-produced ‘Primetime Entertainment’ last year.
Having attracted attention with their relentless live shows and powerful studio releases, PET NEEDS have attracted praise from the likes of Backseat Mafia, The Rodeo, Times Radio, NARC Magazine and more with the latter dubbing ‘Primetime Entertainment’ as a record of “joyous experimentation” in a four-out-of-five star review.
Following an extensive UK, US and European tour supporting Frank Turner last year, 2023 has seen PET NEEDS support The Lottery Winners across the UK, The Bouncing Souls in the US, Flogging Molly in Europe and complete their own headline tour as part of Independent Venue Week.
Appearing at festivals including 2000 Trees, Dot To Dot, Bearded Theory and more across the Summer, they are currently wrapping up a US run alongside labelmates Skinny Lister and return for a run of headline shows this Winter.
