Riding high on the back of a Top 20 Album and the prospect of a major UK tour right around the corner – PET NEEDS – are back with the euphoric new single “Trip”.
“Here we go now, another trip around the world for us, dreaming of the day when we can do the same, but in a bigger bus…” frontman Johnny Marriott daydreams aloud on “Trip”.
Full of big riffs, choral hooks, and even bigger aspirations, the latest single from the Essex Punk Rock breakthroughs dates back to their days supporting Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls as they schlepped across America on his mammoth ‘50 States In 50 Days Tour’. Capturing all the chaos and carnage of those sleepless nights, “Trip” is a full-throttle homage to that unforgettable time and the unbeatable high of touring.
As Johnny recalls:
“On Frank Turner’s 50 States in 50 Days tour, when we were slogging it about in a splitter van on an average of four hours sleep a night, we found ourselves daydreaming about one day doing a similar tour in a sleeper bus… Then remembered that we were ON TOUR IN AMERICA – something that we’d dreamed of for years. This song is about remembering to appreciate the present and not waste your life pining for what you haven’t got.”
Wasting little time in getting back to what they love most, PET NEEDS, are about to embark on a significant UK & European headline tour of their own in April and May. All dates are listed below – with remaining tickets on sale now.
The tour follows the incredible news that ‘Intermittent Fast Living’, the latest record by PET NEEDS, became an official UK Top 20 Album. Crash landing into the charts at No.17, it marked their highest charting to date and saw them sitting next to pop megastars the likes of Kanye West, Ariana Grande, and IDLES.
Encapsulating the stop-start life of a contemporary punk band constantly jolting between rock’n’roll dreams and domestic duties, ‘Intermittent Fast Living’ is as riotous as it is relatable. Their third studio album in as many years, its frantic 11 tracks pinball through songs of love and loss, the trials & tribulations of touring, punk protests against pay-to-play shows, lucid life lessons learnt from a new puppy, and just about everything in between. It includes previously released singles “Separation Anxiety” and “Sleep When I’m Dead”, which had spins from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, John Kennedy on Radio X,** Total Rock**,** BBC Introducing**,** Amazing Radio and Kerrang Radio**.
Of the record, Punktastic praised “[PET NEEDS’] superpower comes from channelling their normality and repurposing the magic they experience in their everyday lives as insightful, honest rock… enough bangers to open up an ironic pit”. Elsewhere V13 Magazine hailed ‘Intermittent Fast Living’ as a “gloriously drunken, frantic and punchy punk rock” record, whereas The Soundboard championed the new album as “a phenomenally tight and robust package from front to back, as fulfilling on the most cursory, surface-level listen as it is to take a proper deep dive”.
Recorded in just two weeks and now a UK Top 20 Album, ‘Intermittent Fast Living’ is a breathless new addition to the PET NEEDS canon, created at Vada Studios with producer/sound engineer George Perks (Enter Shikari, You Me At Six, Mogwai, Skindred).
