Phatso: The Next one on the scene

From soccer dreams to music, Phatso is the new Afrobeats artist who is conquering the world and turning heads. Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Phatso was given birth name Farai Matema but his football destiny was almost set by his elder brother Ralph who played football in the Zimbabwean Premier League. However, life took a twist after Phatso was involved in a terrible car accident which rendered him immobile for three months and effectively ended his dream of being an athlete.

But, misfortune awakened a new artistry in the bored and bedridden teenager, confined in his home. Teaching himself on how to create catchy Afrobeats tunes on basic instruments, Phatso dedicated his efforts to developing his music skills. Such a reaction from friends, he decided to hone his skills further and at the same time, pursuing his degree at Near East University.

With mentorship from fellow DJs such as DJ Simon Sayz, who assisted him in enhancing his technical ability, Phatso raised the bar of his productions. And in 2019, he was rewarded for his perseverance with the hit song “Isabella” that started his journey. In the following years, he became one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars, with such chart-toppers as “The Way You Are” and “Dorime.”

Now residing in Dallas, TX, Phatso With his newest release “EKE.” Phatso embodies the victory of a musical passion against all the odds he is determined to take the world by storm.
