The Reed Effect “Mad Dog”

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, The Reed Effect has now released their final video for “Mad Dog” (5/23) off of their album_ ‘1973’._ This album has become the culmination of how Kirk Reed, brother of Chris Reed who passed away in 2020, chose to honor his brother in blood and music.

“This will be the final single release from our album, ‘1973’.

I feel I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do in honoring my dear departed brother, Chris <3.

As this is his final professional recording of this lifetime.

It’s been quite the ride, and we are finishing off with a bang.

“Mad Dog” is the heaviest track from the album.

The video is live footage of Chris, Bryan, and I that Bryan put together brilliantly.” – Kirk Reed

“If Nirvana and The Doors had a love child, who was then raised in the desert by Frank Zappa, you’d likely end up with a band that sounds as oddly unique as The Reed Effect.” – Kirk Reed

‘”Mad Dog” was based on a riff I originally had from the previous lineup of this band, but laid dormant for a time and eventually came back to life with Chris and Bryan. We reshaped it of course and created a new vocal melody with lyrics inspired by a story about a friend’s situation.

I can’t even remember the details, however, it was basically about a ‘Holier than Thou’ group of people with whom my friend had a debate with one of its members which got out of hand. Subsequently, she got the rest of her crew to gang up on my friend on social media.

Whatever cause she was behind got lost in the chaos of her and her friends bullying my friend. The whole thing got misconstrued and damaged my friend’s reputation for no good reason. It was So unfair and is an example of how mindless mob mentality can wreak havoc.

So, my heart went out to him, and I wrote a song about it.”‘ – Kirk Reed

Founding member and front man/guitarist Kirk Reed along with his brother Chris on bass and back up vocals are formidable. Their latest album, 1973, released in 2021, has set higher than ever, and the band has never been more proud of the heavy grooves they’ve unleashed.

2020 was a hard year for many, and The Reed Effect definitely felt that pain. Chris Reed, bassist, vocalist, bandmate, friend, and brother tragically took his own life on October 10th, 2020, just as the new music was about to be released. Being very close, Chris’s death hit Kirk hard. But Kirk feels it is important to let the world hear this music – not just as a tribute to Chris and his legacy, but as a celebration of their collaboration and brotherly love.

We Love and miss you, Chris. The music you and Kirk worked on is being heard.
